DoorDash Driver Arrested Mid-Delivery, Police Complete Order

A routine traffic stop in Washington Township has turned into an unlikely viral moment after police officers stepped in to complete a food delivery when the driver was arrested.

According to the Washington Township Police Department, the incident happened around midday on March 1 near a local high school when officers stopped a vehicle driven by a delivery worker for DoorDash. During the stop, police discovered the driver had several outstanding warrants from another county and took him into custody.

While being arrested, the driver told officers he had two active DoorDash orders in the car that were scheduled for delivery just a short distance away. Rather than let the meals sit in the vehicle and potentially get canceled, Sgt. Matt Barnett and Sgt. Mike Scheer decided to complete the deliveries themselves.

The unexpected handoff was captured on a home doorbell camera and later shared online by the department. In the footage, the two officers approach a house carrying a brown DoorDash bag before ringing the bell.

When the homeowner opened the door, she appeared surprised to see police officers holding her lunch. “I got so scared,” she said in the clip, laughing as she realized why they were there.

One of the officers explained the situation with a quick joke: “Arrested your driver, but, yeah, we delivered your food.”

The woman accepted the order and thanked the officers, who waved before heading back to their patrol car.

The department later posted screenshots and video from the moment on social media, apologizing for the unexpected surprise while adding that they hoped the customer’s lunch was still hot.

The lighthearted story gained wider attention, quickly circulating across social media platforms.

While unusual, the incident echoes a handful of past viral stories in the U.S. in which officers have stepped in to finish deliveries after drivers were detained — moments that often blend everyday policing with small acts of community service.

This time, it also ensured that despite the arrest, the customer’s DoorDash order still arrived right on time.
