Rush hour on Charlotte’s LYNX Blue Line turned into a nightmare: tight as could be in the light rail car near the 25th Street stop, everybody exhausted from the day. Then, all hell broke loose. This guy, smelling of booze, starts yelling at everybody, including one old lady who just sat there, minding her own business. That is when 24-year-old Kenyon Kareem Dobie decided he wasn’t having it.
Dobie was just another rider heading home on December 5, 2025. He tells the drunk to knock it off. Things escalated quick witnesses saw the suspect, 33-year-old Oscar Gerardo Solorzano-Garcia, pull out a big fixed-blade knife and stab Dobie right in the chest. Blood everywhere, people screaming, and Solorzano jumps off at the next stop.

Cops grabbed him not far from Parkwood Station just minutes later. Turns out, this wasn’t his first rodeo on the transit system he’d been banned from Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) property back in October for acting up and carrying a knife.
From what the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police reports say, Solorzano got on the train hammered, slurring his words and slamming seats. He targeted riders, shouting threats. Dobie steps in with a simple “Leave everyone alone.” Solorzano dares him to fight, grabs his hands, and stabs him once. All that comes straight from witnesses and court docs no guessing here.
This is the second big attack on the Blue Line in four months. In August, a Ukrainian refugee named Iryna Zarutska was killed in something similar, which has people demanding more security, like extra patrols and cameras.
Dobie hit the floor, struggling to breathe, while folks called for help. They rushed him to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, where he’s in critical but stable condition basically, bad shape but not getting worse. From his hospital bed, he described it:
“I’ve got a tube from my chest hooked to a machine that’s draining blood from my lungs.”
He wasn’t out to be some tough guy. Dobie put it this way:
“I wasn’t trying to act all macho, but I won’t stand by while you mess with random people for no reason, especially the elderly. Better me than some older person.”
His GoFundMe blew up, raising over $100,000 from people who think he’s a real hero.
Solorzano, who’s from Honduras, is locked up without bond. DHS says he’s here illegally, deported twice before in 2018 and again later. There’s an ICE detainer on him, so immigration stuff comes after the local charges: attempted first-degree murder (meaning he meant to kill but didn’t finish), assault with a deadly weapon, and a few others.
His record? Robberies in other states, plus that October ban from CATS for the knife. All checked out in court records.
Then things got weird. On December 10 or 11, Dobie gets arrested straight from his hospital room on old warrants: assault causing serious injury, assault on a pregnant woman, and communicating threats from some domestic issue in October. He’s held without bond too, court date coming up.
That doesn’t change what happened in the stabbing Dobie still intervened and got hurt. But online, it’s messing with how people view him. Hero stories are clashing with these charges, and opinions flip fast. The facts of the incident stay the same, though.
The whole thing exploded on social media. Posts from accounts like Libs of TikTok got millions of views, painting it as an immigration mess and a transit disaster. Politics jumped in former President Trump ripped into “open borders” policies. With Solorzano’s repeat offenses, it’s hitting on bigger worries.
Charlotte’s transit problems aren’t new. Assaults went up 15% last year, linked to homelessness and drugs. This stabbing highlights holes in enforcement, from immigration to actually keeping banned people off the rails. As DHS cracks down under new bosses, locals are pushing CATS for real changes. Dobie’s story? It’s a reminder that one brave move can kick off major shifts or major arguments.
