Caught on Camera: Sheetz Robbery in Kernersville Turns Violent as Man Filming Gets Attacked

Sheetz convenience store robbery in Kernersville, N.C., has brought community concern after an attack by two perpetrators on one man for trying to film them as they made an escape. The sensationalized segment first posted on social media by Right Angle News Network on X and Instagram now faces harsh criticism as police and local individuals seek explanation.

According to social media reports, this occurred on August 2 at the Sheetz convenience store on North Main Street. Two men reportedly walked into the business, stole goods, and beat an innocent bystander who was recording them. Despite being beaten, the victim clearly videotaped the vehicle license plate of the perpetrators a valuable lead that may prove pivotal to the perpetrators being identified.

One circulating clip allegedly shows the victim confronting the suspects:

“Alright, these two ladies right here. She’s Kernersville, North Carolina. Decided to walk in and just grab a bunch of stuff. And… Yeah? Say, it’s $13 worth of sht. I don’t care. Now you’re just… Now you’re just… Now you’re just insulting me. I’m calling the police. Going to jail. I’m calling the police,”

the man can be heard saying before the situation escalates.

Suspect Descriptions

Based on social media reports, the suspects are described as two Black males:

One approximately 5’6”–5’8” tall, wearing a black North Face jacket and a bandana.

The other around 5’10”–6’0” tall, dressed in a black hoodie and grey jeans.

The couple allegedly drove off in an automobile from the scene, and the plate number recovered has been significant to the ongoing investigation.

Police across North Carolina have increasingly deployed automated license plate readers (ALPRs) to track vehicles associated with crimes. These units read and memorize license plate numerals in real-time, and police are able to instantly cross-check with stolen vehicles or perpetrator vehicles.

However, ALPRs are not without controversy. Privacy advocates argue that constant vehicle tracking can lead to unwarranted surveillance of innocent individuals. Supporters counter that such technology can significantly reduce crime by giving police a faster investigative lead a factor that could prove vital in this case.

The video of the robbery and beating has already gone viral and has raised an outcry among people. Social media has also been filled with people’s posts criticizing convenience store security and calling for tighter security systems to prevent something like this from occurring again.

Others also have gotten heated online, debating vigilantism and the threat of profiling people based on race. Security consultants have also discouraged people from confronting the suspects themselves.

“Stopping a crime without the right training may lead to further escalation and danger to people’s lives,”

remarked one security consultant for retail business based on similar incidents.

Authorities are requesting those with information to step forward and speak to the Kernersville Police Department or Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. In the interim, members of the public are asked to wait for direction from official sources such as WXII 12, WFMY News 2, ABC45, and police official sources.
