Sad news is in about John Witherspoon.
John Witherspoon has died in his Sherman Oaks home at the age of 77.
In a statement released by his team to Deadline, they said;
“We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved husband and father, John Witherspoon, a true icon in show business, passed away today at his Sherman Oaks home at the age of 77. He leaves behind his wife Angela, sons JD and Alexander, and a large family. We are in shock and request a moment of privacy to mourn and honor his remarkable life and work. John used to say ‘I’m no big deal,’ but he meant the world to us.”
It is with deep sadness we have to tweet this, but our husband & father John Witherspoon has passed away. He was a Legend in the entertainment industry, and a father figure to all who watched him over the years. We love you “POPS” always & forever.

Many people may remember Witherspoon from roles like Pops in “The Wayans Bros.” and Willie Jones in “Friday” and “Next Friday” which he starred alongside Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. He also played the voice of Gramps in the animated series “The Boondocks.”
He will be remembered for all the great movies and shows he has given us.
