Brazilian social media influencer Barbara Jankavski, known online as “Boneca Desumana” (“Inhuman Doll”) and famously called the “Human Barbie,” has been found dead in a townhouse in São Paulo. She was 31 years old.
Authorities in São Paulo have confirmed to local outlets that Jankavski’s death, which occurred on November 2, is being treated as suspicious. Police say both autopsy and toxicology reports have been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
According to a police report obtained by CNN Brazil, Jankavski was discovered unresponsive by Renato Campos Pinto de Vitto, a 51-year-old public defender. De Vitto reportedly told investigators that he had hired Jankavski for sexual services that day and that the two had consumed an illicit substance together during their encounter.
He claimed that he only realized Jankavski had stopped breathing after she appeared to fall asleep. De Vitto said he called emergency services and attempted CPR for about nine minutes, but she could not be revived.
When authorities arrived, Jankavski was found wearing only her underwear and had visible injuries, including a bruise near her left eye and marks on her back, according to the report. A friend of De Vitto’s later told police that those injuries came from a fall earlier that day, not from what happened inside the residence.
Jankavski had built a devoted online following — more than 400,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok — where she documented her striking transformation and her love for cosmetic surgery.
Over the years, she underwent at least 27 cosmetic procedures in her pursuit of a doll-like look inspired by Mattel’s iconic Barbie. Her content often showed her recovery process, including photos and videos of swelling and bruising.
In September, Jankavski shared a post-surgery video showing her eyes darkened and bloodshot, joking to fans that her scars were “almost invisible.” Her last Instagram post, shared on October 1, marked a noticeable drop in her social media activity after a busy summer.
Police say Jankavski’s death remains under active investigation. The results of her autopsy and toxicology tests have not yet been released.
News of her passing has sparked widespread discussion about beauty standards and cosmetic surgery culture in influencer circles. Her death follows other recent tragedies in the influencer community, including Brazilian fitness creator Fernanda Maroca and Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, known as “Nurse Goddess.”
Fans and followers have flooded Jankavski’s social media pages with messages of grief and remembrance, many praising her confidence and transparency about her cosmetic transformations.
“Rest in peace, our real-life Barbie,” one fan wrote. “You were beautiful inside and out.”
