Boosie Badazz has turned a months-long search into one of hip-hop’s most heartwarming viral moments.
The Baton Rouge rapper recently reunited with his childhood best friend, Derrick “D-Jack” Jackson — affectionately known as “Peanut Head” — after the pair spent more than three decades apart. Videos shared across social media show the longtime friends embracing for the first time since elementary school before heading to a playground to relive the carefree days they spent together as children.
The emotional reunion comes just weeks after Boosie publicly asked fans to help him track down the friend he hadn’t seen since third grade.
The two first met while attending Wildwood Elementary School in Baton Rouge, where they were inseparable from kindergarten through third grade. Their friendship came to an unexpected end when Jackson moved with his family to the Detroit area, leaving the future rapper behind.
Although Boosie had previously tried to locate Jackson — including searching Facebook years ago — his efforts never led anywhere.
Everything changed in late June when the rapper was visiting a water park with his family. Hearing someone call out the name “Derrick” instantly transported him back to his childhood, prompting him to share a series of videos asking followers and hip-hop blogs for help finding his longtime friend.
In the clips, Boosie fondly described Jackson as his best friend during their elementary school years, recalling his glasses, his “Peanut Head” nickname and the heartbreak he felt when Jackson moved away. He also revealed he had a Detroit concert coming up and hoped they could reconnect in time.
The rapper later shared an emotional letter he planned to send if his friend was found. Reading it aloud, Boosie introduced himself as Torrence Hatch, reflected on their childhood memories together and admitted he had often wondered what became of Jackson over the years.
His appeal quickly gained traction online.
While a few people falsely claimed to be Jackson, the real Derrick eventually saw the videos and responded. He later joked about how emotional Boosie’s letter sounded before reaching out, and the pair soon connected over the phone, spending about an hour catching up after decades apart.
Jackson also shared a heartfelt message of his own, writing that he had always believed they would eventually cross paths again despite the years of separation. He added that many people never believed he had grown up with the rapper and said he was looking forward to renewing their friendship “like it never stopped.”
Their long-awaited reunion took place in Detroit while Boosie was in town for his July performance at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre as part of his Blues on the River tour.
Videos from the meetup captured an emotional embrace before the pair climbed into an SUV and spent time catching up. They later visited Slick City Action Park with family members, where they raced down slides, laughed together and embraced the same competitive spirit they shared as children.
Boosie posted several clips from the outing, captioning one, “Back like we ain’t never separated! We compete at everything.”
Jackson also reflected on the experience online, calling the reunion “special” and thanking God for bringing them back together after more than 30 years. He revealed that their families spent the day together before attending Boosie’s Detroit concert later that evening.
The reunion has since spread widely across Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube, with fans celebrating the unlikely story of two childhood friends finding each other again through social media.
