Rapper Boosie Badazz’s unapproved appearance at a Louisiana high school has resulted in the principal being placed on administrative leave.
James Rollins, principal of Northside High School in the Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS), was removed from his post following the rapper’s visit to the campus on Wednesday afternoon, April 29, 2026. Boosie (born Torrence Hatch) toured the school, addressed students in the gym — where his 2006 hit “Wipe Me Down” reportedly played — and appeared alongside State Rep. Tehmi Chassion.
According to local reports, the visit was not cleared in advance with district officials, violating LPSS policy that requires prior approval, security vetting and proper protocols for outside guests. Rollins was placed on administrative leave on or around April 30, one day after the incident. The district has described the action as a personnel matter.
Boosie quickly came to the principal’s defense. In a video posted to social media on Friday, May 1, the Baton Rouge native praised Rollins’ intentions and urged the Lafayette Parish School Board to reinstate him.
“We would like to respectfully ask the Lafayette Parish School Board to reconsider the principal’s position,” Boosie said. “From what we experienced, he did an outstanding job with security and made sure everything was handled the right way. More importantly, he came across as someone who genuinely cares about his students and made sure they had the opportunity to benefit from what we brought.”
The Louisiana rapper, who maintains strong ties to his home state, was in the Lafayette area promoting a separate music event at the Cajundome. Boosie has received local honors in recent weeks, including St. Landry Parish declaring May 10 as “Boosie Badazz Day.”
Public reaction has been mixed, with some viewing the visit as a motivational opportunity for students and others stressing the need for schools to follow established security and approval procedures — particularly given Boosie’s history of legal issues and the often-explicit nature of his lyrics.
As of Saturday, May 2, the school system has released limited details, and the situation remains an ongoing personnel matter.
