Boosie Bails on ‘Color Purple’: Rapper Exits Movie Over LGBTQ Storyline

Rapper Boosie BadAzz made headlines after he walked out of the movie Color Purple in protest of its LGBTQ storyline. The film ‘The Color Purple,’ based on Alice Walker‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, depicts Celie’s life as a black woman struggling with abuse, racism, and poverty in the early 1900s. Along the way, she develops a romantic relationship with another woman named Shug Avery.

Boosie, who had two young daughters with him, took to Twitter to express his displeasure with the movie and its message. He wrote:

I HAD TO WALK OUT THIS COLOR PURPLE MOVIE ( N TWO OTHER OLDER COUPLES WALKED OUT ALSO.) BECAUSE I HAD MY LITTLE GIRLS WITH ME N IT SEEMED LIKE A LOVE STORY GOOD ACTING BUT WHOEVER WROTE THE SCRIPT IS PUSHING THE NARRATIVE HARD AS A PARENT I WILL NOT LET MY LITTLE GIRL WATCH THIS FILM

Boosie has controversial views on homosexuality and gender identity. He claimed the movie was promoting a “narrative” he disagreed with. He said that he did not want his daughters to be exposed to such a depiction of love and sexuality, implying that it would have a negative influence on them.

The rapper’s choice to leave the movie has started a debate on social media. Some people support his position, while others criticize him for being homophobic and ignorant. Some film fans argued that Boosie missed the story’s point about empowerment, resilience, and liberation. They also pointed out that the movie was faithful to the original novel, which was published in 1982 and won several awards.

Boosie leaving the movie raises the question of how artists and parents balance their creativity with their responsibility to their kids. Should artists be free to explore any topic in their work, no matter how it affects their audience? Should parents be able to protect their children from content they find inappropriate or harmful? How can both sides respect each other’s opinions and decisions?

These issues are brought to the forefront by Boosie’s walkout. They will likely continue to spark discussions and debates in the future.
