The trial of Atlanta rapper Ca$h Out, whose real name is John Michael Hakeem Gibson, and his mother, Linda Smith, also known as “Mama Cash Out,” began on June 2, 2025, in Fulton County, Georgia. The pair faces a series of grave charges, including rape, sex trafficking, and luring women into prostitution, following their arrest in 2022.
Prosecutors allege that Ca$h Out and Smith exploited their record label, Pyrez Music Group LLC, to coerce and recruit young women into commercial sexual activity. According to authorities, the women were enticed with promises of financial gain and elevated status within the company, which leveraged their ambitions in the music industry. The 41-count indictment further includes charges of aggravated sodomy and racketeering, painting a picture of a sophisticated criminal operation.
The case extends beyond the mother-son duo, involving co-defendants Kierra Danieele Adams (aka “Boots”), Tyrone Orlando Taylor (aka “Rooskie”), and Demetrius Lamont Edwards (aka “Drama”). This suggests a wider network allegedly complicit in the crimes.
Authorities have reported rescuing two women from the alleged prostitution ring, shedding light on the human cost of the case. In a related 2023 proceeding, a victim shared her story of escaping sexual servitude and rebuilding her life, now working with the elderly. Her testimony highlights the profound societal stakes of the trial.
If convicted, Ca$h Out could face a sentence ranging from 25 years to life in prison, as noted by Deputy District Attorney Earnell Winfrey. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has underscored the case’s significance, emphasizing the exploitation of vulnerable women in the community.
Ca$h Out first gained widespread recognition in the early 2010s with “Cashin’ Out,” a track that climbed to number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100. He signed with Epic Records and released his debut album Let’s Get It in 2014. After a brief hiatus, his career regained momentum with the 2014 single “She Twerkin'” and a notable feature on PartyNextDoor’s release, reaffirming his presence in the music industry. However, this resurgence has been overshadowed by the serious allegations now leveled against him.
In late March 2022, Ca$h Out was indicted on 41 counts, 13 of which directly implicate him in charges of racketeering, trafficking a person for sexual servitude, rape, and aggravated sodomy. Fulton County prosecutors allege that Gibson operated a criminal enterprise that preyed on vulnerable women, using manipulation and violence to exploit them. The indictment details incidents at multiple Atlanta locations, including a hotel room off Fulton Industrial Boulevard and a residence on Alfred Avenue NW, where Gibson is accused of maintaining a place of prostitution.

Among the most disturbing allegations is the claim that Gibson physically assaulted a victim by beating her with a belt, underscoring the violent tactics allegedly employed. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis condemned the exploitation, stating,
“Women have been victimized and brutalized within our community by people who had a chance to do something else with their lives.”
Deputy District Attorney Earnell Winfrey further explained the alleged scheme:
“He would lure them in, let them believe that he cared about them and that he would take care of them, only to flip the script and then began to pimp them out.”
Authorities have rescued two victims to date, hinting at the possibility of additional unidentified individuals affected by the alleged operation. As reported by Atlanta News First, the trial will commence on Monday after three years of legal proceedings. This extended pre-trial period reflects the case’s complexity and the prosecution and defense’s meticulous preparation.
The trial remains in its early stages. Jury selection concluded on June 2, and courtroom proceedings are now underway. No detailed updates have emerged, signaling that the legal process is still developing.
