Arianna Murphy: Remembering a Bright Future Cut Short by Gun Violence in Chicago’s Austin Neighborhood

Chicago’s drill music scene is mourning the loss of one of its rising voices after 26-year-old rapper Arianna “G Ari” Bosney was fatally shot Monday evening while sitting in her car on the city’s South Side.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the shooting happened around 5 p.m. on October 27 at the intersection of 76th Street and Vincennes Avenue. Bosney was inside her vehicle when gunfire erupted. Her young child was also in the car and was not injured. She was pronounced dead at 5:27 p.m., authorities confirmed.

Bosney was best known locally under her stage name G Ari, a bold new voice in Chicago’s influential drill rap scene. Her songs — including “Want All the Smoke” and “Not My Problem” — earned her a growing fan base for their raw emotion and fierce honesty.

“She had that spark,” one friend wrote on social media. “She was trying to make a better life for her and her baby.”

A devoted mother, Bosney shared a young child with Antonio “757 BA” Dickerson, another Chicago rapper who is currently incarcerated on first-degree murder and attempted murder charges stemming from a 2017 shooting that left one person dead and several others injured.

Bosney’s death comes just two days after another prominent figure in Chicago’s drill scene, THF Bay Zoo — whose real name was Devonshe Collier — was shot and killed in the Little Village neighborhood on October 25.

Collier, 35, was affiliated with Lil Durk’s Only The Family (OTF) collective. Police say he was standing in a parking lot with two others when two gunmen approached and opened fire. Collier died at the scene, while the two other men survived.

In the wake of the two deaths, unverified claims began circulating online alleging that Bosney may have been targeted in retaliation — rumors suggesting she had provided information related to Collier’s location before his death.

However, members of Dickerson’s 757 crew have publicly denied those claims, posting online that her killing had “nothing to do with Zoo.”

Police have not confirmed any connection between the two shootings and have not announced a motive. No arrests have been made.

Bosney’s death has left her young child without both parents — a heartbreaking reality that has struck a chord with many online.

“She didn’t deserve this,” one commenter wrote. “Now that baby doesn’t have a mom or dad. It’s devastating.”

Community members and fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to G Ari, remembering her as a young woman with drive, talent, and love for her family.

“She was so full of life,” another friend wrote. “She had dreams. She just wanted peace.”

The Chicago Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact Area One detectives or submit anonymous tips via cpdtip.com.

As Chicago’s drill community grieves another loss, Arianna “G Ari” Bosney is being remembered not just as an artist but as a mother, a friend, and a young woman whose life ended far too soon.
