An adolescent teenager aged 17 years old in Alabama has been charged with charges of murder and attempted murder after reportedly stabbing his mother, Samantha Baker aged 37, to death and wounding his father, Lance Baker aged 46, in a fight regarding disciplinary measures at their home in Daphne on Augustine Drive in 2026.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department, the altercation resulted in violence by the teenager inside the family home in the Belforest area before moving out of the house. Samantha Baker died on the spot due to stabbings while Lance Baker sustained multiple stabbings, ran away from the house crying for help, and eventually was airlifted to a hospital in serious condition.
The violence started around 8:35 p.m. when there was a disagreement about punishment for the teenager. It was followed by the assault outdoors, where the father tried to take cover from his neighbors.
One neighbor told reporters their security camera captured Lance Baker, bloodied, running through the area and screaming for assistance.
“Please help me. I don’t want to die,”
He reportedly shouted while leaving bloody handprints on doors, per witness accounts shared with local media.
Samantha Baker, a realtor and former Army National Guard/Reserve member, also fled outside during the incident. The teen allegedly continued the assault before it ended.
He barricaded himself inside the house, called 911, and was taken into custody by the deputies at the scene shortly after 9 p.m. One charge of murder in connection with the murder of his mother and another of attempted murder in connection with the attack on his father were filed against him. His bail amount is set to be $1 million. His identity has not been disclosed due to his minor status even though he is tried as an adult.
The family was a military one. Samantha Baker is a member of the Army National Guard/Reserve. Lance Baker is the battalion commander of the 1184th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion in the U.S. Army Reserve. Lance Baker has over 26 years of military experience in the force. It is said that the couple got married while they served.
Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Justin Correa described the case as “an isolated domestic incident that got out of control,” with no prior indications of trouble noted publicly.
The probe remains active as authorities process evidence, including neighbor video. Lance Baker’s condition was still listed as critical in the latest reports. Court proceedings for the teen are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
This incident has shocked the town and sparked conversations about domestic disputes and mental health assistance for adolescents, although nothing has been revealed yet by the authorities regarding the motive other than an alleged disagreement on disciplining.
