Snoop Dogg Credits 30-Year Marriage for His Success, Reveals Wife Was His Only Girlfriend

LONG BEACH, Calif. A viral post celebrating Snoop Dogg’s marriage is making the rounds this week, and the numbers behind it deserve a closer look. The clip credits the rapper’s decades of success to his marriage with Shante Broadus and says she is the only girlfriend he has ever had. That last part, it turns out, is something the rapper has said himself.

Speaking at Broadus’s 50th birthday celebration in November 2025, Snoop presented her with three rings and told the room: “The first ring is when you became my girlfriend and that meant the world to me, boo, because in case people don’t know, you the only girlfriend I ever had in my whole life.” People documented the moment.

The couple met as students at Long Beach Polytechnic High School and married on June 14, 1997, at the Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey, People has reported. That makes this past June their 29th anniversary, one year short of the three decades the viral post rounds up to. Broadus also became her husband’s official manager in 2021, overseeing partnerships across cannabis, spirits, gaming and television.

The success credit is on the record too. Speaking to People in 2024, Snoop called his wife “the good to my bad” and described her as “a great mother, a tremendous grandmother, an excellent wife and a great friend.” Of their longevity, he said: “I’ve got a strong wife with a strong backbone and a good heart. She’s loving and she’s caring and we are meant to be together.”

The road had a rough stretch. The pair briefly split in 2004, when Snoop filed for divorce, and he later admitted fame had gone to his head. “I thought I was the man, and I was willing to give up what I had at home for that, until I realized that what I had at home was irreplaceable,” he told People in 2007. Hello! Magazine notes the couple renewed their vows in January 2008 at singer Charlie Wilson’s ranch in front of 200 guests.

The Broadus family keeps making headlines on its own. Snoop surprised daughter Cori with a $1 million wedding gift, and a Universal Pictures biopic about his life is in the works. He has also spent recent years reflecting on legacy, saying 2Pac’s spirit lives in him.

His advice to anyone aiming for a bond like his is simple. “Find out what your companion loves the most and concentrate on doing it the most,” he told People. “That’s real love.” Whether the internet counts the marriage as 29 years or 30, the rapper has never hedged on the vow behind it: “When we said we’d marry, we married ’til death do us part.”
