Lil Wayne has shut down rumors of an engagement and confirmed his split from 23-year-old social media influencer Madi Cannon.
In an Instagram video posted on July 6, the 43-year-old rapper directly addressed speculation that had intensified in recent months. “I would like to clear something up. No, I am not engaged. No,” Wayne said in the clip. He described their relationship in warm terms but cited intense public scrutiny as the reason for the breakup. “I had a beautiful thing going with an amazing person. But, obviously, due to the validity of the temperature of today’s crazy world and culture, I considered I don’t want to be such a burden on such an amazing person. So, we decided to part… sucks,” he added.
The post was captioned simply, “It is what it was.”
Cannon, known online as Madi K or @xomadix and hailing from Kokomo, Indiana, had been romantically linked to Wayne since earlier this year. Reports of a quiet engagement surfaced around May, including coverage from TMZ, and were fueled by the pair’s public appearances together — most notably cozy backstage moments during Wayne’s 20 Years of Carter Classics tour. A recent photo of the two only added to the engagement chatter.

The 20-year age difference between Wayne and Cannon drew significant online commentary, which the rapper referenced as a driving factor in the decision to end the relationship. He framed the split as protective, aiming to shield Cannon from the “crazy world and culture” surrounding his public life. Wayne’s wording suggested the parting was amicable.
The announcement arrives during a challenging stretch for the veteran MC’s ongoing tour. Wayne missed the June 30 opening date in Bangor, Maine, due to a severe migraine — a known trigger for his epilepsy — and was late to a subsequent New Hampshire show. He was spotted at Michael Rubin’s star-studded July 4 celebration instead. The Maine concert has since been rescheduled for July 28, with his next performance slated for Des Moines, Iowa, on July 16.
Fan reactions have been divided, with some applauding Wayne’s candor while others weighed in on the age gap and the pressures of social media. No public comment from Cannon has been reported as of Tuesday.
The brief, high-profile relationship appears to have reached its conclusion as Wayne refocuses on the road.
