GTA 6: Rockstar Reportedly Spreads Fake Info to Catch Leakers

Remember that absolute madness back in September 2022? Some hacker asshole dumped like 90 raw clips from GTA 6’s early builds all over the internet gameplay secrets, glitches, the works. Fans lost their shit, Rockstar went into full damage control, cops made arrests, and the whole gaming scene was on fire for months.

Fast-forward to right now, and it’s dead quiet. No juicy leaks, no whispers from insiders, nada. With GTA 6 dropping November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, you’d think the hype train would be derailed by spoilers by now. But nope, total blackout.

So what’s the deal? Word is Rockstar’s playing some next-level spy shit: they’re seeding bogus GTA 6 details slightly different fakes for different teams or devs to sniff out anyone blabbing. If some phony feature or date pops up online, boom, they know exactly who to boot.

Sites like PCMag broke it on February 25, TweakTown hit it February 24, and GTABoom piled on the same day, all pulling from Rockstar-adjacent sources.

Reece “KiwiTalkz” Reilly, this solid leaker who’s chatted up Rockstar devs before, straight-up confirmed it on X:

“Yes, it is 100% true.”

Dude even said,

“Getting intel is almost impossible for me currently… No one is talking at all about GTA 6 lol.”

He called the whole setup “Area 51” levels of lockdown.

TheGhostOfHope, another insider (mostly CoD guy), chimed in too:

“LOL they lock that shit down never gonna happen and even if I did know stuff I’d keep it to myself probably.”

How This “Canary Trap” Thing Even Works

Straight spy novel stuff. Rockstar slips unique fake tidbits like a bogus map change or release tweak to specific people or groups. That detail leaks? Guilty party ID’d instantly. It’s not just busting leakers; the paranoia alone seals lips. Drop a fake and tank your cred, or worse, violate those ironclad lifetime NDAs that stick even after you bounce.

Makes total sense post-2022 fiasco. They forced return-to-office in 2024 to kill remote leak vectors. Then 2025, bam over 30 devs in UK and Canada got the axe for spilling GTA 6 and other project beans on Discord. NDAs breached, careers torched.

Stakes are insane. GTA 5? $8.6 billion, 200 million copies. GTA 6? Analysts screaming U.S.-centric launch printing billions, biggest entertainment cash cow ever.
