Las Vegas Man Logan Gifford Declared Father of His Teenage Brother Amid Abuse Allegations

In a bizarre and heartbreaking legal twist out of Las Vegas, 26-year-old Logan Gifford has officially been declared the legal dad to his teenage brother, who he’s been looking after for years. This came after some DNA teststhat couldn’t definitively sort out who the real biological father was between Logan and another close relative. The whole mess ties back to some serious claims of sexual abuse by their mom, Doreene Gifford.

Logan has been pretty open about accusing his mother of sexually abusing him starting when he was just 10. During that awful time, Doreene had a baby boy who’s now a teen with disabilities and Logan’s been raising him like his own, even stepping up as guardian. He’s even floated the idea that the kid might actually be his son biologically.

Back in 2015, Doreene took an Alford plea on charges like attempted sexual assault, incest, and lewdness with a kid under 14. She got 8 to 20 years behind bars and is out on parole now, living over in Massachusetts.

“Finally, there’s some closure not just for me as a guy who’s survived this crap, but for someone who never signed up for any of it,”

Logan said, looking back on the long road to this ruling.

Earlier this year, in 2025, Logan pushed for more advanced DNA testing to figure out the teen’s real dad. But the standard tests came back showing a 99.9% chance for both Logan and his own father, Theodore Gifford.

“Close family members share a ton of the same genetic stuff,”

forensics folks explain.

“So when you’re testing two guys who are related like that, the usual DNA checks can spit out super high probabilities for both, and it’s tough to tell who’s actually the father.”

There are fancier tests out there, like ones using SNPs or more detailed genetic scans, that might clear things up but they’re expensive as hell and not always easy to get.

Then, on September 24, 2025, Family Court Judge Vincent Ochoa basically handed the legal father title to Logan by default, since Theodore Gifford wouldn’t even show up or get involved in the case.

“I can’t force Theodore to be the dad if he’s not gonna participate,”

Judge Ochoa put it plainly. Logan’s lawyer, Timothy Treffinger, added that chasing more tests would cost a fortune and probably not change much anyway.

Doreene showed up via video link for the hearing, getting all emotional and basically agreeing to wrap things up.

Now Logan’s got full legal custody, making sure the teen’s got the care and steady life he needs. He calls the whole ordeal “haunting” but also a big motivator, stressing how crucial it is for male survivors to speak up about abuse.

“I want other folks who’ve been through this to know they’re not by themselves,”

Logan said.

“This is all about getting to the truth, keeping my brother safe, and healing for both of us.”

On top of being a guardian, Logan’s got a job as a political operative in Nevada, piecing his life back together after a nightmare childhood.

This wild case shines a light on a few big problems how tricky DNA testing gets with close relatives, the way childhood sexual abuse sticks with you forever, and the holes in our legal system for handling these delicate family disasters. Ethics are front and center here, especially when it comes to shielding the kid’s privacy and not dragging everyone through more trauma.
