Turns out, not exactly—but there is some truth behind the speculation.
According to sources close to the family (and confirmed by TMZ), Ciara legally added “Wilson” to her son’s name years ago. So yes, the 11-year-old’s full name is now Future Zahir Wilburn Wilson. The change reflects the blended family setup since Ciara and Wilson tied the knot back in 2016.
Ciara, who has full custody of her son, reportedly decided on her own, and it went pretty much unnoticed until Wilson’s recent Instagram caption brought it back into the spotlight. Sources say the move wasn’t about erasing the boy’s connection to his biological dad, rapper Future. Still, more about acknowledging the reality of their home life—Russell has been raising him as a father figure for nearly a decade.
Wilson has never shied away from talking about how seriously he takes being a stepdad. In a 2024 sit-down on the I Am Athlete podcast, he recalled the first time he held Future as a baby:
