G Herbo’s latest music video shoot didn’t go as planned.
The 29-year-old rapper, born Herbert Wright III, was reportedly denied entry to O’Block — the infamous South Side Chicago housing complex officially known as Parkway Gardens — on Saturday, August 23, when he attempted to film there.
According to police scanner audio later shared across social media, the rapper arrived with what was described as armed security in tow. Despite the heavy presence, building management and authorities refused to let him inside.
“They are trying to get him inside. Parkway is not going to allow him inside. But yes, the artist G Herbo from Chicago, he is nearby and they are trying to get him inside to do a music video, but once again, Parkway is not letting them,” one officer said in the audio.
After being turned away, G Herbo reportedly moved to his neighborhood to continue filming.
O’Block, located at 6400 South King Drive, is a gated apartment complex with deep ties to Chicago’s drill music scene. Built in the 1950s, it has long carried a reputation as one of the city’s most dangerous blocks, earning its nickname after the 2011 murder of 20-year-old Odee Perry.
The neighborhood has produced some of drill’s biggest stars — including Chief Keef, King Von, and the late Fredo Santana — and continues to hold significant cultural weight in hip-hop. At the same time, Parkway Gardens has also been the site of ongoing violence and gang conflict, making it a complicated landmark for both residents and artists.
Though not from O’Block himself, G Herbo has remained closely tied to Chicago throughout his career. A member of the N.L.M.B. (No Limit Muskegon Boys/Never Leave My Brothers), he’s spoken openly about the love and dangers of returning to his hometown neighborhoods after finding mainstream success.
Neither G Herbo, the Chicago police, nor Parkway Gardens management has released an official statement regarding the denial.
