The legal war between Fat Joe and his former hype man, Terrence “T.A.” Dixon, escalated dramatically on Friday, August 1, when Dixon’s legal team dropped a bombshell in a New York courtroom, alleging that two women claim they were involved with the rapper as minors.
What started as a dispute over unpaid wages has morphed into something far more serious. During a hearing in the Southern District of New York, Dixon’s attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, revealed that two women have come forward alleging they were just 14 and 16 years old when they were involved with Fat Joe, whose real name is Joseph Cartagena.
Blackburn confirmed that the names of the two accusers have been turned over to law enforcement, adding a potentially criminal dimension to the ongoing civil and defamation lawsuits. The revelation sent shockwaves through the courtroom, immediately intensifying an already hostile legal dispute.
Fat Joe’s legal team fired back, accusing Dixon and his attorney of a calculated shakedown.
“This is a coordinated effort to abuse the court process,”
Argued Chad Seigel, Joe’s lawyer. He painted the accusations as an extortion scheme, claiming Dixon only manufactured the allegations after the rapper refused to pay him.
Seigel labeled the claims “ridiculous” and pointed to Blackburn’s own history of facing sanctions for allegedly filing baseless lawsuits. Blackburn, however, remained defiant, defending his client and announcing his intent to file a motion to dismiss Fat Joe’s defamation suit against Dixon.
A post from X.
This celebrity court case stems from an initial civil suit filed by Dixon, who claims he was never compensated for songwriting and other work. Fat Joe responded by suing Dixon for defamation, setting the stage for this bitter feud.
The situation is further complicated by the involvement of Roc Nation, Fat Joe’s representatives. Dixon included them in his civil suit, and a hearing to determine their status in the case is scheduled for October.
The judge has refused to combine the civil and defamation suits for now but has kept discovery open—a key point for Fat Joe’s team.
“We need this discovery immediately to prove Mr. Cartagena is the victim,”
Seigel pleaded in court.
With both sides rejecting any possibility of a settlement or mediation, this hip-hop crime news story is headed for a long and messy fight. The new, serious allegations have raised the stakes, putting Fat Joe’s legacy and career under intense scrutiny.
Hypefresh has reached out to Fat Joe’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, for comment but has not yet received a response.
