    2022 Jimmy Award Winners, Nicholas Barrón And Kendall Becerra

    The 2022 Jimmy Award Winners are Nicholas Barrón and Kendall Becerra. These high school students represented Las Casas Foundation’s Joci Awards and The Broadway San Diego Awards, respectively.     What Are The Jimmy Awards?

    The National High School Musical Theatre Awards® a.k.a. the Jimmy Awards® celebrate the top musical theatre students around the country each year. These nominees and winners are known to go onto Broadway as well as other professional theatre careers. The Broadway League presents the Jimmy Awards®.

    Jimmy Alums

    Eva Noblezada, currently on Broadway as Eurydice in Hadestown and nominated for a Tony for her work in Miss Saigon, was a Jimmy’s finalist in 2013. Reneé Rapp won the Jimmy Award for Best Actress in 2018 and then almost immediately stepped into the role of Regina George in Broadway’s Mean Girls . Andrew Barth Feldman won Best Actor in 2018 and went on to play the titular role in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway. Christian Thompson was a Jimmy nominee in 2011 and has since performed in Ain’t Too Proud on Broadway. Thompson will originate a role in the Broadway-bound The Devil Wears Prada developmental musical.

    The alumni of the Jimmy’s, both winners and nominees alike, are surely talented. Given that their work is recognized at such a young age, Jimmy’s participants are bound for success. Audiences better keep an eye out for Nicholas Barrón and Kendall Becerra because they’re just getting started.

    In 2022, the Jimmy Awards brought together 92 talented individuals for a remarkable showcase on the Broadway stage, marking their debut performance. To watch the 2022 Jimmy Awards on YouTube and witness rising stars at the top of their game, click  here  . The Broadway League will remove the filmed event from YouTube on June 30th, but clips will still be available. Kate Reinders hosted this year’s event. The Jimmy’s were available to stream on June 27th from the Minskoff Theatre, home of Broadway’s The Lion King.
