The YouTuber known as Chris Sails was handcuffed twice within 72 hours after an eventful night in Waller County, Texas, that began with bizarre behavior and resulted in a search that needed no help since there weren’t any children who were in harm’s way.
The ordeal began on August 16, when police officers arrived on the scene in response to a suspicious individual running around a neighborhood while climbing onto the vehicles of people in the area. The man seen on the streets turned out to be Sails, who was seen sitting at the edge of the road next to a light pole, praying.
During questioning, authorities allege Sails told them his children had fallen into a body of water behind his home. That statement launched a major search-and-rescue operation complete with fire department vehicles, rescue boats, specialized sonar, and aerial drones. The intensive effort stopped only after responders located the children safe and unharmed with family members. No evidence supported the claim that anyone had gone into the water.
Sails, whose full name appears in booking records as Christopher Robinson Sails, was booked the next day, August 17, on a misdemeanor charge of knowingly making a false statement to a police officer. He posted bond reported around $25,000 and walked free August 18.
Less than 72 hours after that first booking, public records show he was taken into custody again on August 20 at about 1:05 p.m. This time the charge was evading arrest or detention. Authorities have not publicly detailed what led to the second arrest or confirmed any direct link to the August 16 events.
Sails later addressed the chaos in a video. He said he ate brownies at a small get-together and then “started tweaking.”
“I’m eating some brownies and sht. Bich, I started tweaking after that,”
He explained, noting that no one else at the gathering reacted the same way. He claimed he remembered little of what followed, including speaking to police.
“I don’t even remember talking to the police,”
He said, describing himself attempting to “swim on concrete” and arguing officers should have recognized he was not in a normal state of mind. He did not say the brownies were laced or identify what they contained.
Sails rose to fame with relationship, prank, and family content, much of it alongside his former wife, singer Queen Naija. His main YouTube channel holds nearly 3 million subscribers. He has three sons and a prior record that includes a 2018 arrest related to impersonating Houston police officers in a video.
