Young Thug and Mariah The Scientist have officially called it quits.
The Atlanta rapper, 34, confirmed the breakup during a Sept. 30 appearance on Adin Ross’s livestream, where he interrupted the streamer to clarify his relationship status.
“I got broke up with,” Thug — born Jeffery Williams — said bluntly. He added, “But I still got a girl — she probably don’t got a boyfriend, but I got a girlfriend.”
The comment comes after weeks of speculation about the couple’s status, following a string of leaked jail phone calls that painted a troubling picture of their relationship.
The split follows a month of controversy surrounding leaked jail phone calls from Thug’s incarceration between 2022 and 2024. The recordings, which surfaced throughout September, revealed a series of damaging personal admissions.
In one particularly explosive call, Thug admitted to cheating on Mariah the day before his May 2022 arrest, contradicting his earlier claims that incriminating photos of another woman in his condo were from “a long time ago.” On the call, Thug casually admitted: “Wasn’t a minute ago, it was the day before I got locked up… so whoopie doo.”
Additional recordings captured him expressing love to other women and even discussing future children with one, further undermining the image of loyalty that had defined his public relationship with Mariah.
Amid backlash from fans, Thug issued a public apology on X (formerly Twitter) on September 7:
“My baby I was wrong and I’m sorry for what I put u through. U deserved better from me. Thank you for everything and I will do anything to make this work… everybody leave her out of this please she’s an innocent girl and feels bad about all of this. Please give her peace.”
Days later, he posted another message many saw as closure: “Chapter ended ❤️.”
Mariah, while not directly addressing the situation, appeared to respond through lyrics from her song “Rainy Days” on Instagram Stories: “I was naive, not ignorant. So much for my innocence now. Love me, leave me, let me down.” Fans interpreted the post as her indirect acknowledgment of betrayal and heartbreak.
Young Thug and Mariah began dating in late 2021 and quickly became one of hip-hop’s most high-profile couples. Mariah was a consistent presence during Thug’s YSL RICO trial, often praised for her loyalty as she attended court hearings and publicly supported him.
Their artistic partnership also reflected their bond, with Mariah appearing on two tracks from Thug’s recent album UY Scuti: “Invest Into You” and “Dreams Rarely Do Come True.” The songs explored themes of love, devotion, and the strain of Thug’s legal troubles—an irony not lost on fans in light of recent revelations.
