Veteran Brazilian goalkeeper Weverton Pereira da Silva experienced an overwhelming rush of emotion after learning he made Brazil’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, briefly passing out in his living room as his family celebrated wildly around him.
The 38-year-old GrĂŞmio keeper was watching the squad announcement at home with relatives and friends when coach Carlo Ancelotti read out his name as the third goalkeeper. Overcome by the surprise inclusion, Weverton collapsed to the floor. His family, caught up in the excitement amid green-and-yellow decorations and balloons, continued jumping, screaming and hugging for several seconds before noticing he was unconscious.
Security camera footage from the home captured the entire chaotic moment. Weverton quickly recovered with no injuries and later shared the video himself on Instagram, approaching the incident with humor. In his caption, he joked that the joy had “nearly finished him off” and noted it could have turned dangerous if anyone had accidentally fallen on him during the frenzy.
Weverton, who described the episode as a “little faint,” addressed the moment in a subsequent press conference, thanking his family and laughing about his brother nearly landing on his head while celebrating.
The call-up marks a significant late-career highlight for the experienced shot-stopper. Weverton was part of Brazil’s 2022 World Cup squad and won Olympic gold in 2016. After joining Grêmio earlier in 2026 and delivering strong performances, he earned a surprise spot behind Alisson and Ederson in Ancelotti’s 26-man roster, announced around May 18-19.
The video quickly went viral in Brazil and beyond, drawing widespread reactions from fans and players who celebrated the moment as a pure expression of the passion surrounding the Seleção and the World Cup.
Weverton is now set to join the national team camp, missing several upcoming matches with GrĂŞmio as a result.
