    Washington Commanders DC Jack Del Rio Gets “Slap on the Wrist”

    Washington Commanders DC Jack Del Rio recently deleted his Twitter account it appears to save face. Del Rio has been in and out of controversy throughout his career; however, this one seems to take the cake. He made some very hurtful and distasteful comments regarding the passing of George Floyd. As a result, the Washington Commanders have fined Jack Del Rio $100,000 this past week, reported John Keim for ESPN

    Del Rio’s controversial comments made regarding Floyd and the United States Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, as a “dustup” forced the Commanders front office and HC Ron Rivera to step in. They released a statement clarifying that the Commanders have absolutely nothing to do with this regarding the sentiment or shard beliefs. However, Rivera shared what took place during the riot from his perspective. He expressed that Del Rio’s comments don’t reflect the organization’s views and are The events on January 6, 2021, at the Capitol were an act of domestic terrorism, as witnessed in last night’s hearings. A group of citizens tried to overturn the fair election results, leading to loss of lives and damage to the Capitol building.

    Are the Commanders Holding Del Rio Accountable Enough?

    The Commanders’ DC Del Rio was simply fined, $100,000, for his hurtful and distasteful comments. While it’s not stated publicly how much he makes annually, it’s safe to say this fine is a drop in the bucket compared to his annual salary. Many believe the punishment should have been more effective to help send a message around the NFL. Many were hoping of the NFL to make an example of him. While some wanted to simply just hurt him in his pockets even more.

    However, some players stood out and voiced their opinions about the matter. One of the most well-known names, Washington Commanders DE Jonathan Allen spoke with NBC Sports Washington. He expressed his coach and everyone has a right to their opinion while he may or may not disagree shouldn’t matter. He emphasized he’s here to play 

    As long as he consistently shows up and works hard, I couldn’t care less about his opinion. That’s all I expect from my defensive coordinator.
