On Wednesday, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted the annual White House Halloween trick-or-treat event, where the President once again made headlines for a playful candy exchange that quickly went viral.
During the celebration, a young child dressed as DJ Marshmello approached the Trumps for candy. Instead of handing the chocolate bar directly to the trick-or-treater, Trump placed the oversized Hershey’s bar on top of the child’s large, rectangular marshmallow helmet. This move immediately sparked laughter and memories of a similar incident from 2019.
The moment — captured on video and shared widely on social media — showed the child pausing for a moment before walking away with the candy balanced on their head, as Trump and Melania smiled beside them.
The lighthearted gesture quickly went viral online, with many users noting the callback to Trump’s first term. In 2019, the then-president went viral after placing candy on the head of a child dressed as a Minion from Despicable Me during another White House Halloween event.

The White House Halloween celebration featured families of military members, law enforcement officers, and foster and adoptive parents. Guests were greeted by a festive autumn display designed by Melania Trump, who unveiled a cozy, pumpkin-filled theme earlier in the week. This year’s decorations included glowing jack-o’-lanterns, colorful leaves, and orange lighting throughout the South Portico, all set to the classic Halloween soundtrack of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
