From Hip-Hop To Clothing
Celebrities launching their own clothing lines is a regular occurrence. From actors to singers, celebrities understand the benefit of having their own audience. Yeezy, Golf Wang, Billionaire Boys Club, Rocawear, and AKOO are five popular fashion lines owned by hip-hop artists.
Kanye West- Yeezy
Kanye West’s clothing brand Yeezy is possibly the most well-known on this list. Known for his unique fashion show displays and overpriced clothing, Kanye’s novel ideas usually spark controversy; however, they always manage to trend one way or another. Yeezy’s recent collaboration with GAP turned some heads. He ordered the clothes to be displayed in trash bags throughout the store!
Tyler, The Creator- Golf Wang
A less-known but very underrated brand on this list is Tyler The Creator’s brand Golf Wang. The term Golf Wang allegedly came from a phrase Tyler The Creator would call his friends–”Odd Future Wolf Gang”. If you love the laid-back look and want to introduce more colors into your wardrobe, then Golf Wang is perfect for you! The brand combines modern styles with cool retro looks to create the perfect combination.
Pharrell- Billionaire Boys Club
The brand Billionaire Boys Club was founded in 2003 by Pharrell Williams and NIGO. According to their website, Billionaire Boys Club has expanded to multiple brands now including ICECREAM, Bee Line, and Billionaire Girls Club. It’s no surprise that Billionaire Boys delivers some of the most trendy clothing. The website described the brand as, “the brands’ DNA are fueled by Pharrell’s aspirational motto and our brand mantra, ‘Wealth is of the heart and mind. Not the pocket.’”
Drake- October’s Very Own
October’s Very Own or OVO, is Drake’s stylish clothing line. According to an article in Business of Fashion, the brand’s name has an intimate meaning. “A nod to Drake’s month of birth and some handy initials that fit well into the brand’s logo.” Like the other brands on this list, OVO flows well with Drake’s aesthetic. The brand has sweatsuits, hats, and bomber jackets in basic colors and styles. OVO also has a women’s line, and a luggage line for all of one’s travel needs.
And the last clothing line on this list comes from T.I. who created the brand AKOO Clothing brand. The brand matches T.I.’s style with bold colors and a variety of prints. According to their website, AKOO means “A King Of Oneself”. “We design fine quality streetwear for gentlemen of exceptional style, character and distinction. AKOO outerwear is more than a brand. We are a movement, a revolution, a call to action. By wearing AKOO you are joining an uprising, a society of men committed to being A King Of Oneself”.
