After a seven-year hiatus following their critically lauded album “I See You,” The xx, comprising Romy, Jamie xx, and Oliver Sim, have reunited and are back in the studio working on a brand-new album. And if Romy’s words are any indication, this forthcoming release will be a game-changer.
The band’s been meeting, trying new things. Romy promises the classic sound will stay.
“It’s quite different being back in the studio with The xx,”
she shares.
“I think Oliver, Jamie, and I have all tried new things and have learned a lot from the different projects. It’s fun.”
Speaking of solo endeavors, the band members have been busy over the past few years. Jamie xx ventured out with his acclaimed solo album “In Colour,” Oliver Sim released the hauntingly beautiful “Hideous Bastard,” and Romy herself dropped her debut solo effort, “Mid Air,” just last year.
Romy acknowledges that these individual creative journeys have been a learning experience, and the band is eager to incorporate those newfound perspectives into their upcoming release.
“The trio is looking forward to their sound on the forthcoming LP ‘feeling fresh,'”
she teases.
