The competition was cutthroat. 50 Cent even acknowledged that much of his public denigration of Diddy was actually done out of a need to raise his own brand. He even went as far as to say that Diddy did a lot of innovative things, such as putting Cîroc into hip-hop culture with some savvy promotions like “Coco Loso.” At the same time, though, 50 wanted to hold his own by keeping his brand relevant and visible with constant activity.
The beef isn’t completely based on business. 50 Cent has continually made claims that Diddy is doing foul, underhanded business, like dogging him to mutual business associates. “He would do a lot of foul stuff, like hating on me in business dealings,” 50 claimed.
But 50 poured gas on the fire, claiming Diddy had a history of chasing chicks he’d already been with, and that just further fanned the flames of their hostile relationship. “You know how it is-guys want what they see you with,” 50 joked, making it just another layer of their animosity.
50 Cent has utilized Instagram and interviews to his best ability in the modern day, as he is consistently posting a variety of memes, captions, and even direct callouts to Diddy, pertaining to everything from business ethics to personal behavior. All these very public fights made their conflicts something worth paying attention to, both for fans and for media.
Of course, things took a decidedly darker turn in 2023, when Diddy found himself at the centre of several damning legal allegations, one filed by his ex-partner Cassie, which accuses him of abuse, sex trafficking, and racketeering. Such news only gave 50 Cent all the more ammo he needed, and he hardly wastes any time when giving the tweets of comment.
Taking it up one more notch, 50 went wild and said there was some kind of Netflix docuseries that would expose misconduct in entertainment featuring Diddy’s wrongdoings. This bold move by 50 underlined just how aggressive he is into dominating not only the spirits market but also the narrative of their rivalry that continues to unfold.
As brutal as the dissing sounds, 50 insists that this is all part of competitive nature and not pure hate. “The motivation is competing for brands,” he said. “It’s not about beef-it’s about making sure my side wins.”
The beef between 50 Cent and Diddy really just speaks to how personal and business clash in the high-stakes world of hip-hop. Their rivalry is one that also serves as a reminder of the pressures faced by moguls balancing public personas with behind-the-scenes dealings.
