Terrifying Surveillance Footage Shows Girl Abducted at Fairfax Mall by Repeat Offender

Camera footage from Fair Oaks Mall recorded a shocking moment on July 18, 2025, as a man is seen casually plucking a toddler from an indoor play area and walking towards the second floor of the busy mall.

It happened around 11:43 a.m. near the play area where families were gathered. The suspect is seen on video released by Fairfax County Police following the child, picking her up and walking out of sight.

“The father was in the play area with the child’s sibling and didn’t realize she walked out,”

a criminal complaint filed with NBC Washington said. The toddler’s mother was in a nearby market and spotted the man holding her child and walked up to him.

The abductor dropped the girl and fled from the location. Because the parents reacted immediately, the child was saved safely even before the police arrived.

Fairfax County police identified the suspect as 26-year-old Andres Caceres Jaldin, who is homeless. Hours prior, police say Jaldin stole a truck from a nearby auto body shop a car later spotted on mall security cameras.

Using the department’s Real Time Crime Center, detectives tracked the stolen vehicle to an Extended Stay hotel in Chantilly, Virginia. There, Jaldin was arrested as he exited a hotel room.

“This is an excellent example of the manner in which our technology and investigative units can work together in real time to locate and apprehend dangerous individuals,”

Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said in a statement.

Jaldin is currently being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on charge of abduction of a minor and grand larceny-auto theft.

Victim Services of the Fairfax County Police is currently helping the family. In the process, the mall’s security and the functioning of the monitoring equipment come into question once again.

As the investigation continues, officials once again underscore that the rumors about the suspect’s name should not take center stage over the core reality: the life of a child potentially being saved thanks to the timely intervention of her parents and community police.

As the probe continues, officials comment that talk about the possible suspect’s identity should not detract from the crucial point: the life of a child possibly was saved due to the timely intervention of her parents and police officers from her neighborhood.
