Australian pop star Sia’s estranged husband, Daniel Bernad, is asking for a jaw-dropping $250,856 a month in temporary spousal support, claiming he needs the money to maintain the lavish way of life they shared during their marriage.
According to new court documents filed in Los Angeles on October 9, Bernad—who split from the “Chandelier” singer earlier this year—says the hefty sum is necessary to “maintain the luxurious and upper-class lifestyle” he and Sia enjoyed before their breakup.
In addition to monthly support, Bernad, 47, is asking for $300,000 in legal fees and $200,000 in forensic accounting costs. He says the extra funds will help “level the playing field” between himself and his world-famous ex.
Sia, 49, filed for divorce in March 2025 after just over two years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. The pair tied the knot in a private ceremony in Portofino, Italy, in December 2022.
They share an 18-month-old son, Somersault Wonder Bernad. In her filing, Sia asked for both legal and physical custody of the child, while allowing Bernad visitation rights.
Bernad described the couple’s extravagant lifestyle in his declaration, saying they spent more than $400,000 a month on everything from private jet travel to fine dining.
Among the couple’s indulgences, according to the filings:
- Regular private jet trips and luxury vacations
- Fine dining at top-tier restaurants
- A household staff of 10–12 people, including two chefs and masseuses
- A 7,500-square-foot home in Toluca Lake, worth around $12.5 million
“We never needed to monitor our living expenses,” Bernad said, adding that Sia once surprised him with a Porsche 911 Targa 4 as a wedding gift—his “dream car.”
Before marrying Sia, Bernad was a radiation oncologist, but he says he left his medical career in 2021 to pursue a joint business venture with her.
The couple launched a ketamine treatment clinic called Modern Medicine in 2022, which Bernad says Sia funded. However, he claims she stopped financing the business when she filed for divorce, leaving him without income.
“I am financially dependent on Sia, the breadwinner in our marriage,” Bernad wrote in his court declaration. “Orders are necessary because Sia has ceased all funding for Modern Medicine, and I have no income.”
He added that it would take him “several years of training and exams” to reactivate his medical license and return to work as a doctor.
The filings also reveal lingering tension over housing costs. After their split, Sia allegedly paid for Bernad to stay in a hotel through July 2025. He then leased a new residence for over $100,000 a year, but claims Sia refused to reimburse him for the expense.
Bernad says he’s now paying all his living costs and needs temporary support to “maintain the financial status quo” until the divorce is finalized.
Sia’s reps have not publicly responded to Bernad’s requests.
The singer, who has long kept her private life out of the spotlight, was previously married to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang from 2014 to 2016. In 2019, she adopted two teenage boys from foster care—one of whom became a father the following year, making Sia a grandmother.
With the arrival of baby Somersault in 2024, Sia is now a mom of three.
