Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, or Shilo, the 19-year-old daughter of two megastars in Hollywood, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has legally done away with her last name—Pitt—from her full name to just Shiloh Jolie. The move, finally concluded on her 18th birthday, May 27, 2023, gives a new start to Shiloh, who has been living all her life under great public scrutiny, most of the time caught between crossfires when her famous parents built up their tumultuous relationship.

Changing her last name wasn’t something Shiloh had done on a whim. To shorten her surname legally by dropping “Pitt,” she had to go through the process: file a formal petition and publish a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times. This only goes to show how much she was determined to do things differently, independent of the legacies of her more famous parents. Her attorney spoke to the issue and explained that this was a very personal decision for Shiloh, moving on and getting beyond some very painful events in her past, not just as a publicity stunt.
Shiloh’s decision not to use her mother’s surname is no different and unique in that family. Siblings Zahara and Vivienne are also discarding the use of Pitt as their last name.
For instance, Zahara now goes by “Zahara Marley Jolie,” and Vivienne has been credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in public appearances, but once again, it is not clear if Vivienne has legally changed her name. This indicates that the çocuklar are making a collective change into independence and identity outside of family dynamics.
It highlights, as well, the never-ending legal and family battles that have dogged their parents, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The implications of the decision to divorce and battle for custody were the lives of their children. That Shiloh’s name was changed is, therefore, a consequence of that a very extended consequence of those Warfare since she would, obviously want to emerge from the shadow her parents created with their ill-fated breakup.
