A heartbreaking family trip ended in tragedy on December 13, 2025, when little Azariah Hough, just 20 months old, drowned in a hot tub at their Airbnb rental. Her dad, Reynard Tyrone Hough, is now facing heavy charges after he confessed to nodding off while watching her, right after drinking and using drugs.
It all went down around 3:30 a.m. at this rental spot on Nice Court in Kissimmee, Florida. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says Hough-who’s 33 and from Washington, D.C.-carried his daughter out to the outdoor hot tub, which was about 37 inches deep. He admitted to investigators he’d been drinking booze and popped two kinds of narcotics earlier. According to him, he fell asleep for maybe 15 or 20 minutes with Azariah in his lap. When he snapped awake, she wasn’t breathing-her face had been under the water.

Emergency crews showed up pretty quickly and observed that the toddler was foaming at the mouth. They helicoptered her to Advent Health Celebration Hospital, where docs pronounced her dead shortly after, at 4:30 a.m. Sheriff’s officials said it was drowning.
Hough was arrested that same day for child neglect with serious harm, and the next day, they added aggravated manslaughter of a child- citing his being messed up as the big reason for the screw-up. He remains locked up in Osceola County Jail with no bond on that manslaughter count. Court video from his first appearance showed him in an orange jumpsuit, looking pretty wrecked as the judge went over everything.
His family is reeling from this. Hough’s sister, Angel, told reporters they’re all in total shock. She said her brother’s absolutely devastated and torn apart. Azariah was a chatty little one who adored her Bluey toy, according to relatives. The whole crew including her mom and a 6-month-old sib had come down from D.C. for vacation. Mom was inside getting the baby down for the night when it happened.

Unfortunately, this isn’t rare. According to the CDC, drowning is the No. 1 killer for kids age 1 to 4 in this country. The Red Cross reports that an overwhelming 87% of under-5 drownings happen in home pools or tubs. Experts say it can go bad in seconds toddlers don’t yell or splash much, they just slip under quietly.
