Mackayla Paige, the 29-year-old reality TV personality and social media influencer known as Kash, was fatally shot in downtown Oakland early Sunday and a woman has been arrested in connection with the homicide, police confirmed.
Oakland officers responded shortly after 1:30 a.m. on October 11 to reports of gunfire on the 200 block of 14th Street near Harrison Street. They found Paige suffering from a gunshot wound, provided aid at the scene, and transported her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An adult woman from Richmond the same city where Paige lived was taken into custody. Police have not released her name, any charges, or a motive.
Hours earlier Saturday night, Paige had posted Instagram Stories of a night out with friends. The Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Section is investigating and has asked the public for tips, photos, or video.
Paige built a following through Now That’s TV digital reality series, including Real West Coast Baddies, RoomH8z, and Young & Reckless. She also worked as a makeup artist and model, and kept roughly 35,000 Instagram followers under the handle @spoilmewitkash. Friends and family described someone driven by bigger ambitions than the cameras.
Cousin Nicky Clayton told KTVU:
“She wanted to be famous so bad. She still had morals, don’t get me wrong. She wanted to be a reality star. She wanted to start her own business. She was modeling for a lot of companies, and she really wanted to do makeup.”
Clayton added that Paige had been “chilling” with family that night:
“I know she’s supposed to be here.”
Cousin Azima King called her “lively, the life of the party” who “wanted positive energy” and “had big plans and dreams.” A friend identified as Poodahh remembered her as “so fun” and someone who “pushes me to be better every day.” Now That’s TV posted a tribute:
“Though her time with us was far too short, her memory will live on… Rest peacefully, Kash. Forever a part of the Now That’s TV family.”
A makeshift memorial has grown at the scene.
Viral videos and social media claims describing an argument or accidental gunfire remain unverified. Police have not confirmed the exact sequence of events or any relationship between Paige and the arrested woman. An arrest is not a conviction.
The investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact Oakland Police Homicide at 510-238-3821 or the tip line at 510-238-7950. Kash’s story is still being written by the people who knew her beyond the screen her drive, her energy, and the plans that never got the chance to unfold.
