In a move that’s got the Pokémon community buzzing, one collector just traded his white Audi R8 supercar for a massive Pokémon TCG collection reportedly worth around $140,000.
Geoff Pritchett, a serious collector, posted the news in the Facebook group “Pokemon Cards Buy Sell, Deals, Drops and News.” He kept it pretty straightforward:
“Finally closed the deal, trading my R8 for a huge Pokemon collection. All in $75,000 worth of sealed and $65,000 in singles, all from the Sun and Moon era. I’ve got a ton to go through and organize…”
The photos he shared show the sleek white R8 parked next to towering stacks of sealed booster boxes, fat binders full of singles, and storage bins overflowing with cards. He mentioned he still has more to sort through and plans to film a full collection video soon.
The collection focuses entirely on the Sun & Moon era (2017–2019). That’s a period that’s now out of print and getting harder to find every year. It includes roughly $75k in sealed product booster boxes, Elite Trainer Boxes, and the like plus another $65k in individual cards featuring rare pulls, full arts, and secret rares.

The story blew up after Dexerto covered it on May 6, 2026, and it quickly spread across social media.
It’s an interesting swap when you think about it. A used Audi R8, while still cool, is a depreciating asset that usually sits in that $90k–$160k range depending on mileage and condition. Meanwhile, sealed Pokémon product from dead eras has been performing like a solid alternative investment lately. “Nostalgia is one heck of an addiction, and when you’re in your twenties and thirties, you’ve got money to burn, and there’s always another batch of sets that comes out.”
A lot of people online are calling it a smart move ditching a “money pit” car for something that might actually appreciate. Others are more skeptical, wondering if the TCG market is getting a little too frothy and whether this is smart investing or just another collectibles bubble.
Either way, this story hits on something bigger: the line between fandom and finance is getting blurrier all the time. For some people these days, a stack of rare Pokémon cards feels more exciting than a supercar in the driveway.
Love it or question it, deals like this are exactly why so many of us keep a close eye on the hobby right now.
