Patrick Gibson Takes Over as Young Dexter in New Dexter: Original Sin!

Remember when the casting frenzy had just begun back in February 2023 upon the announcement of “Dexter: Original Sin“? Brace yourselves, because this prequel is poised to give you a take on Dexter’s dark passenger that you have never seen.

This time, we have a brand new Dexter Morgan, played by Patrick Gibson, who some of you may have seen in “Shadow and Bone. ” He plays Dexter, hopefully with the same chilling intensity and fondness for ice trucks.

Yet, Dexter wouldn’t follow his dark hobby were it not for his family members’ presence in his life. Christian Slater (“Mr. Robot”) appears as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father, and Molly Brown (“Senior Year”) as a young Debra. It will be interesting to see how all these talented actors interpret characters so commonly known and beloved, portrayed in the original series by Michael C. Hall, James Remar, and Jennifer Carpenter, respectively.

“Dexter: Original Sin” will take us back to 1991 Miami, neon, pastel shirts—a place where Dexter is trying so hard to emulate college life while literally trying to keep his not-so-conventional urges in check. We’ll see the birth of the Dark Passenger as Dexter grapples with his dark desires.

Just like in the original series, Harry heavily influences Dexter’s path. Except now, it’s a serious Harry—played by Christian Slater—seriously leading young Dexter to adopt another code: to direct all those urges to kill toward people who actually deserve it, and never get caught by the police.

What adds to the tinge of suspense is Dexter’s internship with the Miami Metro Police Department. Will he be able to still his thirst for “justice” while working with people he might one day have to target? This internal conflict promises to be a thrilling tightrope walk for the young Dexter.

And there is even greater news: “Original Sin” brings back Clyde Phillips, the original showrunner of Dexter. And get this: the OG himself, Michael C. Hall, is on board as an executive producer. Talk about coming full circle!.

The other side of the coin has executive producers named Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. On top of the list is also a director: Michael Lehmann (“Heathers”) as an executive producer and director. To be included are producer Robert Lloyd Lewis, and with Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios again working in tow, “Original Sin” will prove to be really dark and engrossing.

Production on “Dexter: Original Sin” began earlier this year in Los Angeles. We won’t have to wait much longer to see those sunshine-soaked scenes laced with Dexter’s trademark brand of justice.
