Original Voice Of Ariel Shows Support To Halle Bailey As Ariel!

YAY! Halle Bailey has the original voice of Ariel, Jodi Benson’s, support on being the new Little Mermaid.

As we all know singer and actress Halle Bailey was recently cast as Ariel. They are remaking Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of their 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid.

Since then there has been a seemingly equal amount of praise and backlash aimed at Bailey’s casting of the classic character.

According to US Magazine, we now have word that original Ariel voice-actress Jodi Benson defends Bailey’s casting.

“I think that the spirit of a character is what really matters. What you bring to the table in a character as far as their heart…”

“…and their spirit, is what really counts,” Benson explained.

“And the outside package — cause let’s face it, I’m really, really old — and so when I’m singing ‘Part of Your World,’ if you were to judge me on the way that I look on the outside, it might change the way that you interpret the song. But if you close your eyes, you can still hear the spirit of Ariel.”

The Jodi Bensen added that actors need to be “storytellers.”

“And no matter what we look like on the outside, no matter our race, our nation, the color of our skin, our dialect…”

“…whether I’m tall or thin, whether I’m overweight or underweight… we really need to tell the story,” Benson concluded.

News broke July 3, that the 19-year-old Halle Bailey is set to take on the role of the classic Disney character.

“Dream come true… 🧜🏽‍♀️🌊” Bailey wrote via Twitter.

While several stars, including Mariah Carey, Halle Berry, and Zendaya expressed their excitement about the casting via social media.

The support definitely shined through the backlash of the hashtag “#NotMyAriel.”

Let’s face it, if the original Ariel is saying that we should not second guess the choice of having Halle as our new Ariel, then what is everyone fighting about?
