Offset has resolved a major financial issue tied to his ongoing divorce from Cardi B, paying off a federal tax lien of more than $1.5 million that had lingered since their separation nearly 2 years ago.
According to Us Weekly, the IRS released a lien against the Migos rapper — born Kiari Kendrell Cephus — on Dec. 26, 2025. The lien totaled $1,575,266.73 and stemmed from unpaid 2022 taxes. It was originally filed in April 2024 and had become a central point of contention in the couple’s stalled divorce proceedings.
The update arrives months after Cardi B publicly accused Offset of delaying the divorce unless she agreed to cover his tax debt. In a September 2025 livestream, the Grammy-winning rapper said, “The only reason why I’m still married is that somebody wants me to pay for their taxes,” adding that she already pays her own and refused to take on his financial obligations.
The tax payment could help clear the path toward finalizing the split. Reports indicate Cardi has since agreed to multimillion-dollar spousal support and a proposed 70/30 asset division favoring Offset, terms that may accelerate the conclusion of their 2024 divorce filing.
Despite the lien being cleared, Offset reportedly still carries additional tax liabilities, including a federal lien of approximately $486,000 from 2023 and an unreleased Georgia state tax lien totaling more than $778,000.
News of the payment spread quickly on social media, resurfacing Cardi’s previous comments about the taxes. Fan reactions were mixed but largely pointed toward fatigue with the prolonged divorce saga, with many urging Offset to “sign the papers” now that the major lien has been resolved.
Cardi B and Offset’s relationship has been marked by public ups and downs since they began dating in 2017. The two secretly married that year and share three children: Kulture, 7; Wave, 4; and Blossom, born in September 2024. Cardi is currently pregnant with her fourth child, her first with NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Cardi filed for divorce for a second time in July 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. As of January 2026, the divorce has not yet been finalized, though Offset’s recent tax payment removes one of the most significant obstacles in the ongoing negotiations.
Both artists have continued releasing music and touring throughout the legal proceedings, with their personal and financial disputes playing out under intense public scrutiny.
