Former OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter with a deadly weapon in the 2022 stabbing death of her boyfriend, Christian “Toby” Obumseli, and was sentenced to six years in prison. The deal, approved by Obumseli’s family, reduced her original second-degree murder charge. With credit for nearly four years already served since her August 2022 arrest, she faces roughly two more years behind bars followed by five years of probation that includes mental health and substance abuse evaluations.
Judge Andrea Ricker Wolfson accepted the plea in a Miami-Dade courtroom on August 10. Clenney, 30, admitted she caused the fatal stab wound. Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said the agreement was reached “in full consultation and approval of Christian’s family” and that Clenney was “accepting full responsibility for his death.” Prosecutors described the stabbing as part of a pattern of escalating violence by Clenney.
On April 3, 2022, police responded to an altercation at the couple’s luxury Edgewater condominium in Miami. Obumseli, 27, suffered a single three-inch stab wound to the chest/shoulder that severed an artery. He died at the hospital. Clenney told investigators she threw a kitchen knife from about 10 feet after he pushed her, claiming self-defense and no intent to strike him. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide and found the wound trajectory inconsistent with a throw from that distance.
Clenney maintained for years that she acted in self-defense amid alleged domestic abuse. Prosecutors and Obumseli’s family disputed that account, pointing to surveillance video of her striking him and prior incidents. She was arrested in Hawaii in August 2022 and held without bond.
Clenney grew emotional during victim-impact statements. Obumseli’s mother, through a relative, described the day of his death as “the darkest day” of her life and spoke of ongoing fear, anxiety, sleepless nights, and heartache. Clenney wiped away tears with cuffed hands but did not address the court. Her father later expressed hope she could rebuild her life after release.
Months before the killing, Obumseli secretly recorded arguments. In one, Clenney can be heard using a racial slur against him, berating him, and threatening to slap him after he greeted another woman. Those 2022 recordings, released by authorities and reported by NBC Miami and others, document the language used during a heated fight. They establish that the slur was spoken; they do not by themselves prove the motive for the fatal stabbing. Defense attorneys continued to frame the relationship as mutually volatile and abusive.
A second-degree murder conviction carried a potential sentence of up to 30 years. The manslaughter plea locked in a fixed six-year term with credit for time already served and structured probation focused on treatment. Florida’s “Son of Sam” law is expected to bar her from financially profiting from the case.
