A bare-chested man wearing a turquoise bandana went house to house in the quiet neighborhood of North Las Vegas during a Sunday afternoon when he banged at doors and fired shots out of an AR-15 type gun. Surveillance video footage recorded the terrifying incident when he shot bullets at houses and cars. The residents called 911 in fright.
The suspect who fired the shots is 39 year old Daniel Lujan Jr. according to the Clark County Coroner. The shooting happened around midday of July 19, 2026, within the 6000 block of Yellowhammer Place near Aviary and Deer Springs avenues.
Videos show Lujan carrying the rifle, approaching doorways, knocking, and then firing. One home took nearly 10 rounds. Muzzle flashes and impacts on a tarp-covered porch appear in the footage. Multiple 911 calls reported random gunfire. Police arrived quickly.
North Las Vegas Police Department officers confronted Lujan. He resisted arrest. Officers used less-lethal force, including a Taser and less-lethal shotgun. One officer suffered a minor hand injury during the struggle. Once handcuffed, Lujan became unresponsive. He was transported to University Medical Center (UMC) Trauma Center and pronounced dead.
