The Los Angeles Lakers dominated the Clippers 122-97 at the Intuit Dome, but post-game events stole most of the limelight. There was a social-media buzz when NBA security could not recognize rap sensation Travis Scott and attempted to remove him off the court in a surreal case of mistaken identity.
LeBron James led the Lakers with a near triple-double, with 26, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds. Several key Laker players out, the Lakers delivered a statement win, dominating over their cross-town rivals in a star-filled crowd. Seats courtside were taken over with big-name guests, including rapper Travis Scott, Michael Rubin, CEO of Fanatics, Kylie Jenner, and new Laker signee Luka Dončić.
As fans reeled in disbelief at the one-sided performance of the Lakers, a post-game incident took over in a most surprising way. Travis Scott, in an off-court move, was confronted by an NBA security guard, who, unaware of who he was, mistook him for an uninvited visitor.
The moment, captured on camera by several witnesses, saw Scott seeming momentarily shocked before security moved in hurriedly to stop him. Having seen his error, security let him go, and Scott, ever the calm character, simply walked off and did not make a fuss. While Scott himself did not appear fazed, the internet most definitely was not. Video of the incident went virally through social media, with fans in disbelief at the security guard’s mistake. Memes filled Twitter and Instagram, with tweets poking fun at the incident with humor. “How can you not know Travis Scott? Bro is literally everywhere,” one tweet cried out. Others humorously suggested that the guard must have missed out on the whole SICKO MODE era.
Many also considered the incident an opportunity to comment about security training at high-profile events. “This just puts a spotlight on a need for heightened awareness for security guards,” one fan wrote. “You can’t go about groping at random people, and especially not celebrities, in an arena full of A-listers.”
While this was a minor case of mix-up, it wasn’t Scott’s first run-in with security. In August 2024, he was taken in for questioning in Paris for a scuffle in front of the George V hotel. A security guard, in a move to break a standoff between Scott and one of his security guards, had him taken in for a short stint, but no charges were filed. Earlier in June 2024, Scott courted controversy in Miami Beach when he was arrested for trespassing and disorderly conduct for refusing to leave a yacht when instructed to leave.
