Nancy Mace just straight-up challenged the official story on Jeffrey Epstein’s death, and she didn’t hold back.
Today, February 24, 2026, the South Carolina Republican posted on X:
“We are not convinced Epstein killed himself.”
A clip of her saying it, boosted by @dom_lucre, shot past 200,000 views in hours. Few days earlier, on February 18 during a Newsmax interview, she went even further:
“I think he was murdered.”
This is coming from a sitting member of Congress her own take, not some agency talking point. No federal office has changed its ruling.

Epstein died on August 10, 2019, in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York while he was waiting to stand trial on federal sex-trafficking charges. The New York City Chief Medical Examiner ruled it a suicide by hanging. The DOJ Inspector General’s 2023 report backed that up, but it also tore into the Bureau of Prisons for a laundry list of screw-ups guards falsifying logs, skipping checks, leaving him alone with extra bedding. The FBI and DOJ both said they found zero evidence of homicide.
Still, a ton of people have never bought the suicide story, and Mace is calling out the same red flags that have bothered everyone for years: both cameras outside his cell malfunctioned that night, he’d been taken off suicide watch not long after an earlier scare, and his cellmate was suddenly moved out the day before against normal protocol.
The autopsy showed a fractured hyoid bone. Forensic experts say that shows up in about 25% of strangulation homicides, though it can happen in hangings too, especially with older men. Polls from 2020 all the way through last year keep showing the same thing: over half of Americans flat-out don’t believe it was suicide. A lot of them think he was killed or that the government is hiding something big.
Mace has been teaming up with Reps. Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna on a bipartisan push for real transparency. They helped get the Epstein Files Transparency Act passed in 2025, which forced the release of millions of pages, videos, and photos from the DOJ. Just this month she sat down with the unredacted files at the DOJ and called them “beyond disturbing.” She’s now sending letters demanding every last document the CIA has on Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell passports, photos, videos, names, everything.
Her message hasn’t changed: every page, every name. No protecting powerful people.
No official investigation has overturned the 2019 suicide ruling. All the wild claims that Epstein is still alive or that “new proof” proves murder have been knocked down as fake or manipulated. But that
“Epstein didn’t kill himself”
meme exploded the second he died and it’s never gone away. The prison failures were real, his connections to the elite were real, and social media has kept the questions alive even when the agencies stick to their story.
What Mace is saying is her opinion, based on what she’s actually read in the files, and she’s standing with the survivors who want real answers. In a time when trust in institutions is already in the toilet, her demand for completely unredacted records from the DOJ, the CIA, and every corner of government actually resonates. Americans deserve the full, unfiltered picture on one of the most notorious deaths in federal custody. Only total transparency can finally separate the facts from all the speculation.
