Two juveniles were arrested Wednesday morning after riding a dirt bike through the Coastal Grand Mall in Myrtle Beach, crashing into a kiosk, and then attempting to flee the scene on foot.
According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department, officers responded to reports of a dirt bike operating inside the mall at approximately 10:54 a.m. The two riders, both wearing helmets, were seen moving through the interior walkways before colliding with a freestanding kiosk. After the impact, they abandoned the bike and dropped a cell phone before running away.
Video footage of the incident shows the two helmeted juveniles on a small green and black dirt bike. In one view, they are positioned near a wall with a large “COMING SOON” sign as they prepare to move forward. In the wider view of the mall, the bike travels through the corridor and strikes the kiosk. A bystander in a blue shirt is seen approaching and attempting to intervene as the riders dismount and run. The bike remains on the floor after they leave the scene.
The two individuals tried to escape by running through the mall but were quickly taken into custody by responding officers. Police recovered the dirt bike and the dropped phone at the location of the crash. No injuries were reported to the juveniles, the bystander who attempted to stop them, or any other people in the area.
The incident occurred in a public section of the mall with other shoppers present at the time. The juveniles remain in custody as the investigation continues. Due to their status as minors, their names and ages have not been released. Police have not yet provided details on possible charges.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department stated that officers responded promptly after receiving the initial reports of the dirt bike inside the building. The two riders on the dirt bike attempted to leave the area after colliding with the kiosk but were apprehended shortly afterward.
