Presley Walker Gerber, the 27-year-old model and only son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died Sunday at a rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles County, according to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. Police are investigating the death as a suspected overdose, according to a Fox News report on the investigation.
The cause of death has been formally “deferred” pending further testing, according to a separate Fox News report on his death. The autopsy is pending. A representative for the family confirmed the news and said,
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
Gerber was born July 2, 1999, in Greater Los Angeles. He grew up in the Los Angeles area with his younger sister, Kaia Gerber, a model and actress. Rande Gerber co-founded the Casamigos tequila brand with George Clooney and Mike Meldman.
Like his mother and sister, Presley Gerber entered modeling as a teenager. He signed with IMG Models at 15 and made his runway debut for Moschino at age 16. He later walked for Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren, and appeared in campaigns for Calvin Klein, Celine, Pepsi and Omega, according to People magazine’s obituary coverage.
In 2018 he appeared with his mother in a Super Bowl advertisement for Pepsi. He also worked as a photographer. He ran a “Mental Health Mondays” series on social media aimed at reducing stigma around mental health and addiction.
Gerber spoke openly in recent years about his long struggle with mental health issues, depression and substance use. In 2023, he discussed his experiences with mental health on the Studio 22 podcast, saying,
“whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place … that’s all I need to do.”
In January 2019, at age 19, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. He received three years’ probation and was required to complete a DUI program and two days of community service.
In March 2026, Gerber posted a video showing himself preparing for a “pre-ibogaine flood dose” in Cancun, Mexico. In June 2026, he took part in a mental-health event in Malibu, where he spoke about his experiences, including a turning point at age 23, according to BBC News coverage of his career and advocacy.
In an August 2026 interview for Vogue’s September issue, Kaia Gerber discussed the impact of her brother’s decade-long struggle with drug addiction on the family, according to People magazine’s coverage of the Vogue interview.
“When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,”
Kaia told the magazine. She added that she had identified as “the easy one” and avoided asking for help so as not to burden their parents further.
Kaia described her brother as an “absolute teacher” who chose to be open.
“My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything, and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone,'”
she told the magazine.
“There’s only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.”
In July, Cindy Crawford marked her son’s 27th birthday with childhood photos and wrote that she was proud of the man he had become while still seeing him as her little boy. Gerber is survived by his parents and sister.
