Star rappers and HipHop artists love giving a shout-out to the city that raised them. They live firmly by the saying, “Never forget where you come from.” Missy Elliot certainly hasn’t forgotten her roots.
Recently, Elliot returned to her hometown after delivering Norfolk State University’s winter 2022 commencement speech. ABC’s 13 News Now reported that the HipHop legend revealed plans to donate $20K to the college. Additionally, she encouraged the students to pursue their lifelong goals and shoot for the stars.
“I’m proud of you all, and you should be proud of yourselves. Look at each other and say, ‘You’ve already won.’ Let them know! There’s no winning; you’re already the one,” expressed Missy Elliot during her inspiring speech.
Furthermore, the rapper requested that the donation go to the “area of greatest need.” Honestly, Missy Elliot is putting on for her hometown.

Though, Norfolk, VA, wasn’t done honoring its biggest star. Furthermore, the university offered the Grammy-award-winning artist the Presidential Commencement Medallion and an honorary doctorate in human letters. Could the moment get any better for the star? As it turns out, Norfolk State University continued to shower the star with awards.
Additionally, the university’s President, JavaOne Adams-Gaston, revealed that the degree was given to Elliot due to her “outstanding professional achievements and contributions to public service.” Honestly, the HipHop legend deserved those awards and so much more.
