The BET Awards of 2020 are over, and Megan The Stallion and Lil Wayne are this year’s standouts.
Megan Thee Stallion and Lil Wayne’s performances at the BET Awards 2020 have the internet talking. The two rappers were two of the many artists who performed at this year’s award show.
Fans were probably expecting this year’s BET awards to feel different than past years’ experiences. The death of Kobe Bryant, Coronavirus Epidemic, and more have put a damper on moods. Yet, entertainers and fans alike came together to celebrate music, culture, entertainment, and honor loved ones and causes.
Insecure star Amanda Seales hosted the first-ever award show post the murder of George Floyd. With protest continuing all over the world, a network that is said to be for Black people had no choice to acknowledge the elephant in the room.
Since Floyd’s murder, the hip-hop community has almost wholly reshifted its focus. New school rappers who are known for their trap and party music are trading in their catchy lines for more meaningful wordplay. Da Baby, Roddy Ricch, and Lil Baby are just some of the names of Rappers who either made new songs and remixed olds ones in protest of social injustices.
Last night’s performances were filled with tribute and silent protest, as well as moments of recognition and honor.
Former first lady Michelle Obama honored Beyonce, Wayne Brady performed a Little Richard tribute. However, no moments stood of more than those of Lil Wayne and Megan thee Stallion.
Wayne did an extraordinary performance to Honor fallen NBA legend Kobe Bryant, and Megan’s performance was on the night she got a significant award. If you were to search on Twitter, you might see that fans were very impressed with Megan Thee Stallions’ hair, but her performance was great as well.
