Megan Has Friends in High Places

Megan Thee Stallion is proud to have the respect of Jay-Z and Beyonce and is even considered one of their friends. Last Wednesday, Dec. 9, the rapper spoke with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show about her year, mentioning her weight gain during the pandemic.

Meg explains how it feels to have secured a genuine friendship with the power couple. She details who gives what advice regarding life’s decisions.

“I can’t believe it,” Meg exclaimed, discussing the recognition she received this year, like four Grammy nominations, being in Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, and GQ’s rapper of the year. “But when I chat with my grandma, she makes me feel so good, like, ‘Megan, you’re doing amazing!’ And that’s when I’m like, ‘Well, if grandma says I’m doing great, then I must be on the right track!'”

Seeing Destiny’s Child Perform in Houston 

Meg recounts the first time she saw Destiny’s Child perform live at the Houston Rodeo. That set the high standard for aspiring young artists coming from Houston.

“I used to be a kid dreaming of this,” she recalled. “In Houston, Beyoncé means everything to us. She’s the standard. So being able to talk to Beyoncé now, I’m like… ‘This is amazing!'”

Irony in Meg’s Success

Meg explained that she found an opportunity to turn the misfortune of 2020 into art. She was excited to hear that “Good News is Trending” and “Good News is Everywhere… and It’s Coming From Megan Thee Stallion.”

The famous TikTok #BodyOdyChallenge also served as Meg’s way of embracing all this year threw at her.

“During the start of quarantine, I felt like I gained the quarantine fifteen. I was in the living room, looking at myself, and thinking, ‘Wow, girl, you’ve really done it.'”

It means a lot for her grandmother to acknowledge how well Meg is doing. Fans are watching her block at all the hate and rock her strength and natural beauty with pride.
