Ahead of her showcase at The Mint on January 26, imaginative and ethereal “fantasy soul” songstress QUIÑ has already caught the attention of mega media outlets with her genre bending storytelling and sultry vocals. Last fall she released her debut EP Galactica, a fusion of pop, electronic and R&B soundwaves, culling a myriad of inspiprations from Aaliyah, Celine Dion, TLC and Ciara. In a recent interview with Vibe, QUIÑ shared that “Aaliyah and Ciara were the ones that let me realize that belting your voice doesn’t prove that you can sing, and using falsetto doesn’t mean you can’t sing. I learned this meaning of tone.”
So, whether she’s belting or singing falsetto, the 20-year-old LA native is ushering in a new wave, having caught the initial attention of G-Eazy back in 2015 for their collaborative effort, “Think About You,” a standout from his sophomore album When It’s Dark Out.
Reminiscent of Erykah Badu and Corrine Bailey Rae, she has been featured from the likes of The FADER, OkayPlayer, VIBE and more thanks to her reinvention and forward thinking sound that posits her as an artist to watch out for in 2017.
