Mandy Moore Furious at Amazon After Package Sent to Burned-Down In-Laws’ Home

Mandy Moore is speaking out against Amazon after the online retailer sent a package to her in-laws’ home, which was destroyed in the devastating Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County. The actress and singer took to Instagram to express her annoyance, sharing a photo of the unopened package in the rubble of what was once her family’s home.

“Do better, Amazon. Can’t we have better discretion than to leave a package at a home that no longer exists? This is my mother and father-in-law’s home. Smh.”

    Moore tweeted.

The Eaton Fire, which erupted on Jan. 7 and burned for weeks before being fully contained on Jan. 31, carved a path of devastation through Los Angeles County, including Moore’s Altadena neighborhood. While most of her home remained upright, it was unlivable. Her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, lost his music studio, and the garage and backhouse were destroyed. Moore has spoken publicly about her family’s experience, describing sentiments of “weird survivor’s guilt” as they come to terms with what they lost.

Amazon’s delivery mistake just added to the emotional toll of the experience. People questioned how the company’s delivery system could be so faulty that it could deliver a package to a home that no longer exists. In response, Amazon representative Steve Kelly took responsibility for the mistake, stating that they had contacted Moore to apologize and were investigating how this happened.

Kelly ensured that Amazon has procedures instructing delivery drivers in Southern California to exercise caution in areas hit by wildfires. Nonetheless, “quite obviously that did not occur in this case,” he conceded. He stated that Amazon is trying to enhance its delivery systems to avert such occurrences in the future.

Apart from this particular case, Amazon has been embracing AI-powered technologies to prevent errors in its operations. Amazon uses a system called “Project P.I.,” which uses artificial intelligence and computer vision to detect product defects before they reach customers. Additionally, Amazon invests in employee and customer safety improvements, including AI-driven workplace safety and package optimization, to reduce waste and damage.

Despite such innovations, the delivery to Moore’s in-laws’ torched home shows that human intervention is necessary. Several people have experienced the same on social media, calling for Amazon to enhance processes when dealing with disaster zones.

Moore is not the only one to be affected by the Eaton Fire. The wildfire tore through over 14,000 acres, burning homes, schools, and businesses in Altadena and the nearby neighborhoods. Several residents have been left with nothing and are trying to restart their lives from the beginning.

Moore has been using her platform to bring attention to the devastation, not just for her family but for the community. She’s shared fundraising links and relief updates, asking her followers to contribute to those who lost everything.

“It’s just devastating, but we love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuild and support it.”

    She said.

Since the fire, Moore and her family have been helped by friends, including actress Hilary Duff, who took them in. In addition to gratitude for the kindness they’ve seen, Moore has also faced online criticism for sharing a GoFundMe link for her brother-in-law and his wife.

Others questioned why she was not paying for their losses herself. Moore addressed the criticism, saying she was trying to be useful and hoped people would focus on assisting those in need rather than speculating about her financial situation.

While the Altadena community continues to rebuild, Moore remains committed to using her platform to bring attention to wildfire survivors and disaster preparedness. Meanwhile, Amazon’s blunder reminds us that large companies must streamline their processes to not add further stress to those already dealing with unimaginable loss. Mandy Moore is committed to rebuilding, helping to support her family, and helping her community receive the assistance it desperately needs.
