Rapper Lil Pump has come under attack for unleashing a barrage of inflammatory tweets on pop megastar Taylor Swift just days after she publicly supported Vice President Kamala Harris’s bid for the presidency in the 2024 election. Lil Pump, who has identified strongly with Donald Trump, hurled nasty personal barbs at Swift, including crude remarks and threats, inflating the overheated political environment.
Lil Pump went on to Twitter, telling Swift to “go f**k herself” upon finding out that the singer was supporting Kamala Harris over Donald Trump. He wasn’t done there, adding more insults that also included the NFL player Travis Kelce’s mother. He made threats to send Swift a vibrator because she “need [some] sense,” referencing Kelce’s alleged relationship with Swift. The tweet read:
“Taylor swift go fk yourself. Let’s just b clear when I said @taylorswift13 should go fk herself, I acknowledge maybe @tkelce isn’t doing it and will send her a vibrator of her choice if she gets some sense. Trump 2024”
Swift, a longtime activist and owner of an enormous fanbase, responded quickly. In a sharp rejoinder, she attacked the comments by Lil Pump, calling them ignorant and adding that they reflect the kind of hate that Harris and her supporters are fighting against. In her tweet, she wrote:
“Lil Pump is so ignorant; his comments are exactly what Kamala is fighting. Really, do we want an America where creatures like him can come at someone so aggressively? Swifties unite and stand against his hate!”
Lil Pump’s endorsement of Trump and his attack on Swift come in a period of growing political tension, with the 2024 election looming.
Taylor Swift has been quite vocal about her political views and has used her platform to support progressive candidates, while Lil Pump joins a number of young celebrities who have expressed public support for Trump. The exchanges reflect the wider division between supporters of Trump and those for Kamala Harris, who could be the first colored female ever elected president.
The Twitter spat brought attention to the personal feud between the two stars, but also reflects a wider political battle shaping the 2024 election. Lil Pump’s remarks, people saw as offensive and misogynistic- sparked a backlash among Swift’s fans and commentators, while his supporters praised his loyalty to Trump. They will only get louder as the election approaches, with Swift and Lil Pump among the celebrities making that conversation across social media even louder.
Whether such high-profile endorsements and attacks will impact voters remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: political stakes in the election of 2024 are high.
