Lil Nas X’s Inspiration
The 22-year-old also notes the inspiration for the cover. Using references from a piece titled Genesis II created by artist John Stephens. The artwork goes by “The Glory of the Eternal, it relates to the bible verses Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2, Where it shows how God created the earth from nothingness.
Nas X tweeted a Bible verse referring to God completing the Heavens and the Earth, and resting on the seventh day.

Montero
The artwork portrays the tangible nature of the world. “The earth was shapeless and void, covered in darkness over the vast waters.”
Others, for example, the Tidal Twitter account, mentioned that the cover art was inspired by a SpongeBob SquarePants lore. The singer made sure to poke some fun at the post as well.
