An old interview with new actor and rapper Lil Meech recently surfaced, offering new information regarding rap mogul 50 Cent’s role in ushering him into acting and getting him started. Best known for portraying his role as his dad, Big Meech, in the hit television series BMF for Starz, Lil Meech revealed that 50 Cent sponsored two years of acting school in preparation for the role.
Before stepping before a camera, Lil Meech had never played an acting role. Despite his heritage, he wasn’t a lock for the role. But when 50 Cent saw him, 50 Cent took a hands-on approach, offering proper training for the new actor even before auditioning him.
“When I initially met 50, I was getting my life together, He put me in acting school in L.A. and handled everything else. I had to go twice a week, five days a week, and practice at home. After a little over a year and a half, I started to become comfortable.”
Lil Meech recalled.
That dedication paid off. Lil Meech landed the title role in BMF, a series about the Black Mafia Family, a group co-founded by his father. Not only did the role require a family resemblance, but skill, nuance, and an actual understanding of his dad’s life, a skillset that Lil Meech tirelessly developed in preparation for it.
Despite his famous family name, the new actor struggled to make a name for himself, just like any newcomer. It wasn’t a simple journey. There hadn’t even been a consideration for acting, and having to act out a role for his dad placed an added burden.
“I didn’t have a similar upbringing to my dad’s, I grew up in a private school, in the suburbs, courtesy of him, But taking on this role involved entering his circle in a way I hadn’t experienced previously.”
He added.
His dedication was driven not only by personal aspiration but also by a strong urge to represent his father’s image. Big Meech’s approval of his acting was a significant source of motivation.
However, despite 50 Cent’s enormous contribution to developing Lil Meech’s career, their working relationship recently soured. There have been reports of messages between 50 Cent and Lil Meech, with 50 Cent publicly taking shots at him. In them, Lil Meech questioned 50 Cent’s actions towards him, stating that 50 Cent treated him poorly even when he showed him a lot of loyalty.
“I can’t believe this man… You act as if I’m your enemy. I’ve only shown you love and loyalty,” one message reportedly read. He also called out 50 Cent for unfollowing him on Instagram and managing rapper Skilla Baby, someone Lil Meech claims he introduced to him.
The back-and-forth between them has generated speculations about whether Lil Meech will ever return to BMF, with 50 Cent even floating a recasting or cancellation of the series. In spite of all the drama, Lil Meech appreciates 50 Cent for providing him with an opportunity.
While the future of collaboration between them is in doubt, one thing is certain—Lil Meech has gone a long way from acting classes in early life. What started as a gamble for 50 Cent is a thriving career today. All his sweat and toil have earned him a name for himself in BMF, and one can confidently say that he wasn’t handed a part for simply having a similar name.
As BMF continues to make waves, Lil Meech’s performance is a testament to determination, mentorship, and having an individual believe in one. Whatever comes next, he has firmly placed himself in Hollywood—turning a one-time opportunity into a career-defining performance.
